Hey, sorry if this is a dumb question, but I just can't figure out what a dream stone does. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's the lowest of the charm items. They give elemental resistances and resistances to gamble. When you equip, you can see what the item does to your elemental stats, and stat effect resistances.
