it suggests doing a triangle fusion of a Slime, Ukobach, and an Angel to get an Archangel

but if you actually try that you get a Kaiwan not an Archangel  Huh

edit:

okay apparently what level the persona are at has something to do with it as well

ended up figuring it out

Ukobach has to be the highest level of the three for the fusion to produce Archangel

I ended up having Ukobach at level 8, Slime at level 7, and Angel at level 4

This is explained in the guide (page 70). =)

Remember, if it's not a copy pasta error, it's not good enough. Grin

Moreover, the sentence on page 88 explicitly says to learn all skills of Ukobach and Slime beforehand. They learn them all at Level 7. The Angel doesn't need to be leveled up, so you can just win one from a shuffle, and the fusion will work. Ukobach is ranked higher than Slime if they're both at Level 7, so Ukobach will be the Third Persona anyways.

I just had a similar problem - only I was going to end up with Oberon rather than the Archangel. It actually wouldn't have been that bad; Oberon would still learn Media fairly soon (after two levels rather than one, though) and is resistant to fire damage innately and so would only need to pick up resist physical and Red Wall off its, er, "parents".

I think the confusion here stems from the fact that, at least to me and presumably to GrayWolf, the guide sounded like it was advising you to get all of Ukobach and Slime's skills beforehand because it would lead to a better Archangel rather than because that was integral to actually getting an Archangel in the first place. It's true that it mentions this factor of Triangle fusion in at least two other places in the guide, but in this particular passage it doesn't mention anything to do with getting something other than an Archangel if your persona are at the wrong level (or indeed that there even is a wrong level).

Sorry for the double post but it's just so the post will be marked as unread for those who have already read this thread and may be able to offer help on this (I'm particularly thinking of the P4 guide staff members who may have already read all the posts).

I now have the Slime and Ukobach at level 7, each with all their skills. I still get Oberon from a triangle fusion. Am I missing something here? Angel, Ukobach and Sandman fuse to make an Archangel but then it won't get Red Wall, an important skill for the boss fight apparently.

Edit Just re-read the first post's edit and noticed the solution. So it seems I can confirm that you do need Ukobach to be a higher level than the Slime, not just at the point that he's learned all his skills and is the same level as the Slime.

Sorry, but this is simply not true.  I did exactly what you describe and I got the same result as the TC.  I had to level the Ukobach up 1 level to get it to work.

From further experimentation, I know what the probem is and it ties in with another error on page 215.  On page 215, 2nd paragraph, it says that if you have 2 personas tied for the highest level, then the third persona will be the one that has the highest Arcana (e.g., between II and X, X would win).

However, starting from this problem and doing further experiments in game, I have learned that the "third persona" chosen between tied personas is actually the lowest Arcana.  From the example above, II would be the real winner.

What I'm also curious about is that since triangle spreads use current levels, what happens when the "third peronsa" is tied not only for highest current level but also Arcana? (E.g., If you were to level an Ose up to 38 [Fool] and fuse it with a Black Frost Lv 38 [Fool]and a Pixie Lv 2 [Magician]).  I imagine it would then look at base levels?

Edit:   Scratch that last part, it doesn't matter.  Either way you slice it, you would be using a Fool as the third arcana and using the other Fool for the initial fusion.

Only error I've noticed so far is that on the protagonist page, it says "supermatural".

exorbio:

That appears to be the case. I had performed this exact fusion when I wrote the walkthrough, and thought I had confirmation that in a case of a tie, that the Arcana with the higher number takes precedence as the Third Persona.

I think what happened is that I made sure the Fusion was possible by ensuring that Ukobach was at the proper level, and later revised it when I thought it had been confirmed that in the case of a tie, the higher Arcana took precedence.

In any case the text should be more accurately read as

"Combine them in a triangle fusion with an Angel when Ukobach is of a higher level than Angel and Slime..."

Sorry for this mistake.

Now to fix that other error.

That explains it! My angel is at Level 10. I don't really need to use that particular fusion since I'm already way past that point but I still have no Archangel. He's shown up in a shuffle after a battle once but I picked someone else instead. Shuffle happens very rarely for me, they probably lowered the rate because you get money automatically from battles and because arcana covers most everything else.
